laundry day

i will start this post out with an ocd exclaimer...
the lighting in & entering the laundry + my lacking photog skills =
very odd or random colored pics.

as i was loading up the washer today i thought...
why not start with this room...
share a bit of it.
besides... i spend loads of time in there...
and it just happens to wear my favorite flooring in our house.

when we were in the design phase of this room it was a toughie for me.
i did not have a big footprint to work with...
and i was aLL of the place with my thoughts.
ALL over!
there are sO many amazing laundry rooms out there...
it seemed the more i looked... the more confused i got.

for the most part i think it ended up great for how i tend to use the space.

the girls each have a basket & place for their folded.
i've really liked this part a lot...
and think i'll like it even better...
once they get better at keeping up with putting all that folded away.

i like the piles being somewhat out of sight & how the girls can run in...
grab their basket...
run it to their room...
and bring it back empty & ready for another day or load.

the sink in there is teeny...
but so is our dog.  :)

i had never been a big user of our utility sinks...
really think i could have gone without...
but knew it'd be good to have a small option.
so far... it's worked out great.
no honey... i don't think getting a Labrador is a good idea.   :)

IMG_1354IMG_1163 IMG_1160

there are two pocket doors into the room...
one from a main hall...
and the other (THAT I LOVE) from our master closet.
no more running through the house looking for that clean brassiere!  :)
no really... i do love that i can pull things out...
hang them...
and put them right away.
OR... tempoarily... on the hooks right inside closet.

there were a few pieces... and their measurements... i worked around.
they had to be in the space!
my Steele Canvas truck was one of those things.
it's my hauler... my back saver... sorter... roll all over the place... wonder!
i love him!

i could have gone nuts choosing lighting in there.
oh wait a sec... i did!
what i mean...
Barn Light Electric has sO many choices... sO many great options...
the sky is the limit.

knowing how much i love the look & feel already...
i went simple and went galvanized.
down the road switching out the shade is always a simple & fun option.

the door to the right of the dryer... was on my "oh i hope" wish list...
it holds the vacuum & brooms & such.

i was a bit torn...
actually went back & forth...
on the washer/dryer pedestal situation.
i have always used them... had them... really liked them.
knew having hanging or more counter space above them would be nice...
but hemmed & hawed...
and gave it many sleepless nights...
the pedestals won out.
the storage drawers under were simply too useful for hangers
and those random mismatched socks.
surely... had i gone the other route... it would have been fine too.

IMG_0849 IMG_1032

the turquoise table...
i found it at Nadeau... added casters...
and she is the perfect addition to the space.
i love how i can move her to & fro too.
she's been a gem.

that's it over there... where i do the washing.
soOoo thankful to have the space... the clean water... gas... electricity...
it's a gift!

oh... and the flooring... my favorite...
i did put it in another space...
so more on it later.

thanks for letting me share y'all!

What a great space. I always enjoy hearing the thought process, too. And what a brilliant move to have a door to the master closet! On a less creative note...would you mind sharing your thoughts and opinions on your washing machine (past and present)? I love the versatility you get from front loading machines, but I must admit I am considering a top-loader on our next round (which could happen any time now...our current washing machine is limping along). I have been disappointed with the way our machine washes and smells! Maybe they have improved, we bought ours about eight years ago.

Yippeee! I'm loving this tour of your digs... keep em coming sweet thing! Was just thinking of you the other day while I was driving... for no reason at all... you just popped into my head and I thought of you and wondered how you were doing. Laughing because we're still in the same house and place of confusion about life direction and you've sold, moved, built, and unpacked. So funny how God works our stories out. Sending you a big hug! :)

Beautiful room! I happened upon your blog today from FlowerPatchFarmGirl blooms in the city. Anyway, I saw a yellow binder/planner photo in your 2011 photos and was curious what kind it was, where you found it, and how you use it. Thanks, Angie

What a lovely laundry room. It really is a pleasant space, with all you want and need and what I particularly like are all the wonderfully personal touches that make a space that we all spend a decent amount of time in a place we enjoy - actually gain pleasure from :)
Adoring the additional door to your closet too - I can completely appreciate that!
Well designed and decorated - very inspiring x

Can you tell where I might "possibly" get the picture of the deer in your laundry room? Help, please please..
